I'm obsessive about researching products we buy, and when my son decided to buy a hamster, it was my duty to research the cage. Generally, I found you want the following attributes:-Good ventilation-Protection from drafts-Enough room-Easy to cleanReviews on other brands seemed hit or miss, and quite frankly, when I viewed the Crittertrail cages in-store, they seemed flimsy. I bought this one even though it had no reviews, but other Hagen/Habitrail products were well rated. I'm not dissapointed. This cage is the same as Hagen/Habitrail's If you have a Syrian hamster you will need to get some tiny tales tubes (they are big) to attach another cage to this one. Syrians need big tubes or they will get stuck in them and pass away. THE WHEEL is dangerous and bigger hamsters need large wheels anyway. You can only fit a 6 inche wheel in the cage. Make sure to REPLACE the wheel. But most hamster cages come with bad wheels. If you plan to attach it to another cage with nice big tube wholes it's fine for a Syrian. Easy to clean, my boy didn't try to escape. For a small hamster, I think they would love it. You can fit good sized wheel in there for them, a little house, a toilet paper tube, and toy. I would still stick two together though personally. They are much happier, healthier, and tamer when they have more space and can pee far away from their food and water. Reminder to take your hamster out and play with them at least every other day for at least 10 mins as well and let them run around in a ball or play pin. Every living creature needs a change of scenery. Lol This cage is super easy to clean. Easy to take apart and put back together. However, if you have a hamster that is more energetic, especially a girl, they may be able to escape pretty easily. My Hamster is a boy and only ever wants to eat and run on his wheel because he doesn't go into heat like they girls do. Rodos may be able to wiggle out. So be warned.I purchased this habitat as a secondary habitat to provide my syrian hamster with more room. It is extremely important to provide syrian hamsters with room, especially if you notice they are not very active (although they are nocturnal animals, working night shift I noticed my hamster was very low in her activity, and believed this was due to her limited space).I knew this habitat itself would not be enough space, as the previous habitat also was not very spacious, so I tried to find a way to combine the two to provide her a duplex. I found that the OVO activity tubes were a perfect addition to combine the two habitats into one (I did have to buy an additional OVO tee to connect the habitrail habitat to the activity tubes). I connected the tubes to the right side of the habitrail habitat and used the provided clips to connect to my original OVO habitat, so please keep in mind if you purchase these tubes, you WILL have to purchase one additional tee (under 5.00).The habitrail habitat comes with many special perks including the exercise wheel, upper loft, feeding bowl, and water tube. The ladder can be tricky to assemble if not lined up and clicked into place. It is not on correctly unless you hear the :"click" of the clasp to the loft. The loft itself sits on the outter rails and it is important to line them up evenly for sturdiness. The wheel is also very simple to assemble using the click clasp on the back. The habitat itself is not very large on it's own, so I would recommend using and purchasing the additional tubes, or connecting it to a previous habitat for more space.Assembly was very simple as most of this is already assembled when shipped. You have to connect the door, wheel, ladder, loft, and the two outter rings (the rings must be lined up perfectly in order to connect, so if you're struggling, try turning the rings a bit and then pushing again. You will hear a loud click when attached properly). Many people stated they didn't see a door in the photo provided, the door is located in the center of the front, and is not at the bottom of the bottom of the habitat, but rather halfway up the front. So if your hamster does not like to climb into your hand, I would not recommend this. Our hamster is very skiddish and doesn't like being held due to it's previous owners, however luckily our second habitat has a door towards the bottom she can climb in and out of to get into her exercise ball.As part of a larger kit this is great. Big, deep, large wheel and water bottle. Too small as one cage but great as an add on to another cage and tubes. We love to see the hamster doing her balancing act and she loves the wheel but you need to add extras on for more roomAcabamos de adoptar un Roborowski, uno de los hamsters más enanos. Yes, this cage is small by itself. We have it set up with the Habitrail OVO Home connected to it. We call this cage the house and the OVO Home the backyard. Today I added a tower with a den at the top and now our girl has plenty of room to scamper and climb. I have another tower to add onto it with a maze at the top, but one thing at a time. I'll give her a few days to get comfortable with what we have now and then surprise her with another addition. I love Habitrail products because there are no limits to what you can do. I love playing around with the set-up and adding new tunnels and toys. This little cage by itself would be too small and would become boring quickly; I consider the Cristal Hamster Habitat as a home base with a lot of potential for expansion to make a fun adventure playground for your little hammy.
