You can clean the liter pan by pulling it out like most cages. But this whole cage can lift off with my love birds remaining on their perch and be set aside. Then the lift out wire bottom can be cleaned at the kitchen sink as well as the litter pan and the base. Then just reassemble with new paper and set the cage and birds back on and make sure the wire inserts are in place. This cage is light and highly mobile. The plastic base could be more durable however. It requires delicate handling during the cleaning process and individual piece replacements don't seem to be available. Cleaning the wire lift out floor is a must that most cages don't have. We bought a new cage just to replace the base. We like this cage.never got to use. still sitting empty. petsmart sold me an old sick bird that got my new baby bird sick so they're all gone.Update to the con list (3 months later): Replacement dowel perches are nowhere to be found. Our budgies love the cage and get plenty of exercise, but they chewed through one of the dowel bars and this company does not sell replacements for this cage. Since our birds love to have a couple of long perches and we didn't want to change the set-up, we had to special order bird-safe perches from a wood crafter. And a side note is that we always remove the wire grid at the bottom because every budgy we've ever had likes to ground forage. We clean the cage and replace bottom paper each day so it is safe for them. We've had budgies for a lot of years and needed a new cage. Pet stores near us don't have a lot of bird cage choices so we were glad to find this one on Amazon. I bought screw-on perches in various sizes, which work great in this cage. After shopping around, this was the best one with 1/2 inch bars that I could find in this size.Pros: This cage is pretty and we love the purple color. It's easy to put together and a decent price. It's also roomy for our 2 budgies to exercise and play and has the 1/2 inch bars that are safe for them. It has a lot of places to hang toys and the seed and water dishes are sturdy (we keep the cover off the water one since smaller birds can fall in, get stuck, and drown). And our metal fruit/veggie/millet clips fit the bars perfectly. The birds have room to fly back and forth and exercise their wings.Cons: Cheaper quality than older cages from the 1990's that we're used to. Since the tray is plastic and not the sturdy aluminum of the older cages, it sticks a lot when trying to slide it in and out, which makes cleaning harder than it should be. Two of the 3 wooden perches aren't sized properly and slide around too much. The metal bars are also thinner and bend easier than the older cages but that seems to be the trend these days. The smaller doors slide easily and don't have latches, so we use twist ties to keep the birds from opening them, but this has been a problem with some cages in the past.Bought this for two budgies. Ample space for both including perches and toys. Love the large front door. Makes it much easier to access the inside as well as gives the birds easy in and out of the cage. They seem to like it more than the gabled topped cage they used to be in. That was a mistake buying a gabled topped cage. Birds don't access those pitched spaces, which becomes wasted space. The cage was pretty easy to assemble. Took maybe twenty minutes? My only "complaint" would be that the base is a bit flimsy so be careful not to break it during assembly. Overall, very satisfied with the cage so far but it's only been a week. This cage met several requirements for my two budgies: larger than my old but sturdy cage; a combination of horizontal and vertical bars, correct bar spacing for type of bird, good length for flying back and forth; nice color scheme, big but easy to move from one room to another; large door for when you’re moving things around; slide out bottom tray enabling easy paper changes.I had looked at a lot of cages; unfortunately mostly online because even in NYC we have a few chain pet stores and those we do have carry very little stock for bird cages. I would have liked to see the product before buying. But, I figured this would be low risk because shipping and returns would be free.I dismissed the Vision cages because while they say it’s an innovation to have a unified cage bottom that detaches from the top for cleaning, this also is a neat setup for parakeets who might want to escape - either intentionally or not. With a slide-out tray, you can easily change paper and even get your hand in and sweep out other debris in between deeper cleanings. The cage arrived quickly and in a very large box - so big that I had to leave it at the UPS pickup point and take the inner box home by itself. The cage comes in several parts and I found it fairly easy to assemble but the top was, oddly, a bit wider than the rest of the cage. The bottom didn’t quite fit all together no matter how much I adjusted. Then looking at the instructions, I see that the care instructions say you should use a “Teflon resistant” cloth - made me wonder if the metal is covered in Teflon. I submitted a question here and another customer confirmed this. I’ll call Prevue tomorrow because if this is so, it should say “Teflon coated steel” (or whatever the metal is). I’m not comfortable with that, given how much parakeets use their beaks to climb and knock toys around - they’ll come into a lot of contact with those bars.(Of course it’s possible my old cage has Teflon on it too but I have the knowledge that I’ve had birds live 12, 8, and 10 years in the cage).Reluctantly I am returning this because even if I could get over the “Teflon” reference, the bars are just too easily bent for two young budgies who like to test things. I don’t think they could break the bars but they could bend one just enough to get their head stuck. It’s too bad because the overall size was nice for an apartment dweller and I liked the dimensions. When cages are built taller, I feel it’s wasted space for budgies who will just sit at the high point in the cage and ignore the “lower-level” space. This might be a nice cage for birds that do not have a strong hook bill, like canaries or finches.I bought this for my two canaries. The size mentioned on amazon does not include the base so the height given is much smaller than in real life. Also, when you put it together there is a gap between the sides and front which is about 1.8cm so might be dangerous for small birds that can get their heads stuck in it. Nice big space but not very sturdy. If you are planning to leave it in one place it might be ok but if you are planning to move it then be aware the sides and top can come apart quite easily. I am returning mine. They have much more room to fly about and more perches the only fault is the perches tend to move about which I am going to have to fix. I use this cage for a single canary. Willow has room to fly and hop from perch to perch. He seems to enjoy this cage. And that makes me happy. I would recommend this product for a single canary only, since they need the length to fly. The bottom tray slides out easily to clean and the large front door allows my hand to go in and clean the perches. This is not a cage for parrots, as they would be able to bend the bars with their bolt cutter beaks. I bought the matching stand with this cage and this is a wonderful set up for us.My bird Chi Chi loves the space in the cage. It was very easy to set up and it came with three perches. he included water and seed feeders are very nice with a hood to reduce mess. It does not include the bathtub shown in the pic. The door is excellent it has a smaller slide up door for quick access and attaching the tub and a larger hinged door to allow easy access. I have bigger hands and arms and the door gives me full access to the whole cage.
